🕘 09:00 – 16:00

What your team will gain

Throughout the day, practitioners will:

  • build confidence across key areas of practice
  • explore ideas that can be adapted within their own rooms
  • reflect on how their environment supports children’s development
  • strengthen their understanding of what high-quality practice looks like

The focus is on clarity, confidence, and consistency across the setting.

Session Spotlight: Inclusion in Practice

11:30 – 13:00 - Inclusion in Practice: Supporting Every Child to Belong and Thrive

Led by: Sophie Hayter and Kate Wilson

This session is built around a simple idea: inclusion should be present in every setting, not only when additional needs are identified.

Together, Sophie and Kate bring two key perspectives:

  • qualification and workforce expertise
  • inspection insight through the Ofsted toolkit

What we will explore

1. Inclusion within EYFS

  • The EYFS commitment to equality of opportunity
  • Supporting children with additional needs
  • Adapting environments and teaching approaches

2. Ofsted and inclusive practice

From an Ofsted perspective, inclusion is seen through:

  • how children are supported to belong and participate
  • the quality of interactions
  • leadership decisions and consistency across the setting

The role of professional knowledge

  • Why qualifications and ongoing development matter
  • Understanding child development and early indicators of need
  • The impact of confident practitioners on inclusive environments

Kate will bring a practical perspective grounded in the Ofsted inspection toolkit, helping teams understand how inclusive practice is recognised through:

  • everyday decision-making
  • staff confidence
  • and consistent approaches across rooms

Learning through real-life scenarios

To help implement your skills and knowledge, Sophie and Kate will run an interactive workshop around inclusion. These discussions are designed to help teams reflect on their own environments and consider small, practical changes that strengthen inclusion across the setting.

The full day: practical learning across key areas

Session 1: Maths in Practice (09:30 – 11:00)

Explore how maths can be embedded through play, routines, and everyday interactions, supporting a confident and meaningful approach.

Session 2: Inclusion in Practice (11:30 – 13:00)

A focused, discussion-based session connecting inclusive practice with everyday decision-making and inspection expectations.

Session 3: Meaningful Use of Technology (14:00 – 15:30)

Consider how technology can support children’s learning in ways that are purposeful, playful, and rooted in their development.

What Ofsted will look for

From an Ofsted perspective, strong inclusive practice is reflected in:

  • environments where all children feel they belong
  • practitioners who understand and can explain their approach
  • consistent practice across the team
  • clear links between intent, implementation, and impact

Training that supports these areas strengthens both practice and leadership confidence.

Why this is a valuable investment

Supporting your team’s development creates:

  • stronger practitioner confidence
  • more consistent practice
  • improved outcomes for children

It also gives teams the opportunity to step back, reflect, and develop their approach together.
